HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. To know about HDR firstly we need to know about Dynamic Range.

What is Dynamic Range?

When we click an image using our mobile phone of that place where something is on the dark side and some are brighter and then click the photo. it takes the real thing lows the dark to darker and increases the brighter side more bright. and our image will like shown below. And we will think that our camera is not good.

Working principles of HDR

In that situation when we take an image using the HDR function in our mobile camera, it takes three images one is a normal image that I mentioned above and one takes an image by increasing the exposure ( brightness) and another one takes an image by decreasing the exposure then using software it combined or merged all three image to one image. Then our image will look like the below examples.

When to use HDR?

Use HDR when in the frame of the subject there are two levels of brightness one is low and another is high or when we are taking an image of the subject and light comes from the back of the subject and our subject becomes darker in our image. Here is an example below using HDR and not HDR images.

You can also use HDR when you are taking an image of a landscape (like a tree etc.) like below.

When not to use HDR?

Don't use HDR when you are taking an image of any moving subject because as we mentioned above HDR takes three images of a subject and in moving the subject until it takes three images the subject will move far and our image will be a blur.

Another thing is that also don't use HDR low light other than you can use night mode or low light mode in your phone.
